Our Parade Marshall - Archie Green
Charles Archibald βArchieβ Green was born on August 28, 1935, on a farm near White Fox, Saskatchewan. At 16, he moved to Prince Albert to work as a telegraph messenger for CPR, later becoming a permanent telegraph operator in Swift Current in 1955. While working full-time, he completed his Grade 12 by correspondence from Swift Current Collegiate Institute in 1957βthe same year he began his lifelong involvement with Scouts Canada. His dedication earned him numerous awards, including a 50-year service medal in 2002.
In 1962, Archie married Katharina Karwandy, and they raised four children, eventually enjoying a large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Both Archie and Kathy have been active volunteers at Docβs Town, where Archie has served as treasurer, helped in the kitchen, and is especially well-known and loved in his role as station agent, easily recognized in his signature uniform. Archie also volunteered as a first aider for many years and served on the board of the United Way from 1968 to 2011, including five years as President. In 2006, he was named SCBex Citizen of the Year for his extensive community service.
From 1992 to 2002, Archie volunteered with βTreemendousβ Saskatchewan, sorting and preparing up to 10,000 free tree seedlings each year for local residents. He retired in 1991 as a General Technician from Unitel Communications but remained deeply active in the community. He still speaks fondly of Frontier Daysβthe exhibits, the scents, and the festive spirit.
Now honored as the 2025 Frontier Days Parade Marshal, Archie is proud of a life spent serving others. He lives by simple, meaningful words: βAlways promise to do your best, do a good turn for somebody every day, and be grateful for all you have.β
