2026 Parade Marshal

Here we are again folks, Frontier Days 2026 and this year we have the pleasure of introducing John Watson as our Parade Marshal. A well known and well decorated gentleman, at the fine age of 100!!

John was born in Moose Jaw in December 1925. He joined the military in October of 1944 with the Royal Regina Rifles. Serving in the 2nd World War, his military career took him to various stations around the world that earned him many medals and awards of distinction, before his honourable discharge in 1946. John didn’t stop there, he continued his working career as a CPR Fireman and later into public relations positions. And just last year at the age of 99, flew to the Netherlands where he served, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of their Liberation.

John still actively volunteers in the community with a variety of clubs, a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and with the Salvation Army Christmas kettle program. In his younger days John was part of the fundraising committee for Frontier Days with ACT/UCT.

John met the love of his life Mae Mildred at the tender age of 15. Both of their parents were farmers on the opposite sides of Drinkwater, Sk. Marrying in 1948, in the years that followed, they were blessed with 4 children and then extending the family again to include 5 grand children and 5 great grandchildren.

With Johns’ passion for horses and anything involving them, he spent many years on wagon trains, at equestrian events and passing his love of horses down to his granddaughters.

John has many fond memories through the years, attending Frontier Days, spending time with the family, the rides, the events and the whole atmosphere of the fair. He even participated in the parade for many years as a member of the Moose Jaw Shrine equestrian club. John truly lives life to the fullest and bears in mind… that every day, is a blessing.
